Objective

Project Overview

• This project is to show off your creative writing skills, there is no research or works cited required.
• You will complete 1 of 4 project options listed in the lesson.
• Each project has its own specific requirements, so please make sure to follow the requirements for the project you choose.
• The Final Draft is DUE 5/21

Objective

Students will be able to:

Use precise language, domainspecific vocabulary, and techniques such as metaphor, simile, and analogy to manage the complexity of the topic.

Write with a sharp, distinct focus identifying topic, task, and audience.

Organize complex ideas, concepts, and information so that each new element builds on that which precedes it to create a whole; use appropriate and varied transitions and syntax to link the major sections of the text; provide a concluding statement or section that supports the information presented; include formatting when useful to aiding comprehension.

Poetry

• Write your own piece of poetry! It should be at least 12 lines. It can contain end rhymes, internal rhymes, slant rhymes, or no rhymes (free verse).
• Use at least two types of figurative language in your writing if you would like to appeal to the senses (alliteration, assonance, metaphors, similes, personification, onomatopoeia).
• Read it, think about it, and revise it until you are pleased. Be creative, but also be appropriate.
• Typed in a Word document, Double spaced, 12pt, times new roman font (or something easy to read (no cursive fonts).

Short Story

• Write your own short story! Think of the genres of writing we have studied. You can get some ideas from some of the stories we have read in class, but ultimately, you are the author now!
• Please be sure that your story is in MLA format and has an MLA heading, that it is one (1) - three (3) pages in length, Times New Roman font only, font size 12, and double-spaced.
• Be sure to use imagery ---touch upon the senses (taste, hearing, sight, smell, touch).
• Use at least 2 types of figurative language in your writing.

Graphic Novel

• You can create your own story using pictures and text. As with the short story, you'll want to focus on the imagery and creativity.
• Use at least 2 types of figurative language.
• The graphic novel must be at least 10-15 panels (this means the little boxes).
• You can draw and write your graphic novel by hand or you can use a computer program that allows you to create a graphic novel for free.
• Below is a link to one such option. You will have to make your own account to use it, but it is completely free.
• You can also use the template I attached as well if you'd like to draw it yourself.

Creative Ending

• Choose ANY story that we have studied this year in 11th grade and create your own ending to that story!
• Your story should be one (1) to three (3) pages in length, Times New Roman font only, font size 12, MLA format and heading, and be double-spaced.
• Once again, be creative - but appropriate.
• Your ending should be written in complete and full sentences. Please revise until you are pleased.
• Use imagery—touch upon the senses (taste, hearing, sight, smell, touch).
• Use at least 2 types of figurative language.

Success Criteria
