May and might are both modal verbs. Here are a some important rules for modal verbs: Modal verbs do not take any endings like -s, -ed or -ing Modal verbs are followed by the base form of another verb (may do, might be) Modal verbs make questions by change the subject and the modal verb (may I)

May and might are modal verbs that clarify a main verb by indicating possibility, permission, or necessity..

May

What's "May" For ?We use may to indicate that something will possibly happen or be true in the future, but you cannot be certain. Or to ask for permission in a formal way we use the may in the form of a question.

  • We may have some rain today.
  • Rates may rise, but it won't be by much and it won't be for long.
  • I may be back next year.

Might

Generally, might is the better choice for past tense. We use might often to refer to weak possibility, and when we are not sure about something in the present or future:

  • I might see you tomorrow.
  • It looks nice, but it might be very expensive.
  • It's quite bright. It might not rain today.

What’s the difference between might and may?

May be indicates a likely possibility or to ask for permission, otherwise might can be for communicate a formal suggestion or indicate an unlikely possibility.

May and mIght in a question ?

When may is used in a question, it refers to permission, and might can be used in a question about possibility. To ask a question, you must invert the position of the subject and verb

Note that we don’t use may to ask another person to take an action, so you cannot say “may you”. If you want to make such a request, you can ask “can you”, “could you” or “would you”.
