Who is Leonardo DiCaprio?
Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, born in Los Angeles on November 11, 1974, is an American actor, producer, businessman, environmentalist and philanthropist and winner of the Oscar for The Best Actor for the film "The Revenant".

In the 2016 edition, there was a lot of support from the public and fans for him to win the award for his performance in The Revenant. Leonardo DiCaprio's victory was widely celebrated and ended his reputation as unlucky, as he had never won an Oscar before despite being nominated several times. DiCaprio won 47 awards throughout his career, including 3 Golden Globes.
DiCaprio began his career appearing in television advertisements in the early 1990s, after which he had recurring roles on several television series such as the soap opera "Santa Barbara" and the comedy “Growing Pains”. In 1991 he began his film career debuting as Josh in Critters. In 1997 Leonardo began his international fame after starring in Titanic.

The actor created his own environmental protection foundation, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, in 1998. The foundation is dedicated to "preserving the last wild places on the planet, implementing solutions that restore the balance of threatened ecosystems and seeking solutions long-term health and well-being of the inhabitants of planet Earth". In addition to his own foundation, the actor is on the board of environmental groups Natural Resources Defense Council, Global Green USA and International Fund for Animal Welfare. In 2007, he produced the documentary "The 11th Hour", which he worked on for four years.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a dedicated environmental advocate and has been praised by several environmental groups and institutions for his work, including the ONU, which named him its climate change representative in 2014.

For two years, starting in 2014, DiCaprio combined cinema with environmental protection in the production of the film "Are We History?"
In addition to the environment, Leonardo DiCaprio supports causes such as the defense of gay rights, more specifically the organization GLAAD to whom he donated $61,000 in 2013. Leonardo has also donated money following tragedies such as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and worked with SOS Children's Villages International in Maputo, where he interacted with 24 orphaned children. He also supported the presidential campaigns of John Kerry in 2004 and Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.
