Since 2004, language support is provided to specific schools with higher number of migrant students.

Greek Language tests

  • 2009-2010: Development of an attainment test in Greek to assess the level of attainment of students with Greek as a second language (Secondary Education - ages 12-15).
  • 2010-2011: Updated attainment test in Greek
  • 2011-2012: Provision of attainment test in Greek for high school students (ages 16-18)
  • 2014-15: Provision of attainment test in Greek for primary education for A1-B1 levels.

Actions for School and Social Inclusion+

  • 2015-2016: implementation of the DRA.S.E. programme in 42 school units of all levels (approximately 7% of the student population).
  • 2019-2020: Reaching 102 school units and covering 15.6% of the student population.

There are many benefits offered among others:

  • Greek language (in the morning and afternoon) for students and parents with an immigrant biography
  • Additional psychosocial support services for students and parents
  • Free supportive teaching and creative activity Projects for students and parents (chess, dance, robotics etc.)

The countries of origin of TCNs are the following: Syria, Nigeria, DRC, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Somalia, India and Nepal.

According to UNHCR, among the 131 children who arrived in Cyprus between January and June 2020 by sea, 39 were unaccompanied and in their majority (70%), boys.
