Screw
A screw is an inclined plane around a cylinder. You can view it as a cylinder with a head at one end an a pointed tip at the other end. More importantly, it has ridges (threads) winding around it. The term for the ridges is the thread.

Inclined plane

Wedge
A wedge is a triangular tool often made of metal, wood, stone or plastic. It is thick on one end and tapers to a thin and sharp edge on the other end.

Wheel and axle
The wheel and axle is a simple machine that involves two circular objects: a larger disc (wheel) and a smaller cylinder (axle), both joined at the center.
Machines
Machines were invented to perform tasks that exceed the physical capacity of humans, such as moving cars or lifting rocks. What we achieve with this is to reduce the amount of physical effort needed to perform these jobs.
Pulley
A pulley is a simple wheel with a groove in it. The groove helps to keep the rope in place. It is used to lift up or lower heavy objects
Lever
The lever is a rigid bar or a beam that can pivot on a point of support called fulcrum. It is used to lift loads by applying a force to a point of the bar. The applied force is called effort, whereas the load to be lifted is called resistance.
