Xylem and phloem
PHLOEM
Xylem
Phloem is also important as the xylem tissues for the vascular system of plants. The main activity of this tissue is to transport nutrients and food from leaves to other growing parts of plants.
Xylem is one of the important tissues of the vascular system of plants. The main activity of this tissue is to transport minerals and water from roots and carry them to other parts of the plants.
CORTEX
Cortex, in plants, tissue of unspecialized cells lying between the epidermis (surface cells) and the vascular, or conducting, tissues of stems and roots.

ROOT
CORTEX
Onion root
WHAT IS PARENCHYMA?
Parenchyma is a form of simple permanent tissue that makes up a significant portion of plant-soil tissues, where other tissues are embedded, such as vascular tissues. These are non-vascular and consist of cells that are basic, living and undifferentiated and are configured to perform different functions.
EXAMPLE:
Transverse section of root of buttercup. The circular structure in the center of the large micrograph contains the conducting tissues of the root, but now we are concerned only with the outer tissue, the root cortex. All these cortex cells are parenchyma, and because the bulk of the root consists of this is structural parenchyma. It is also storage parenchyma because most cells are full of starch grains.
