Imperialism in ASIA
Japan
European countries are going to go go eastward to gain access to the resources and people of India and China. Countries will establish both colonies and spheres of Influence to control trade. Even though Europeans introduce technology and meical improvements, the effect they leae behind is far greater.

In 1858, the British government took control and ruled India directly. British rule was called the Raj & lasted until 1947. Inida became known as the "Jewel on the British Crown" for the wealth it brough to Great Britain.
Imperialism in India
After the arrival of American ships in the Tokyo harbor, Japan began indusrializing. Within 50 years of learning the new technologies of the West, Japan had surpassed the West in both industry and military power. Using the new technology and military, Japan se began expanding the influence and territory in the Pacific. Japan controlled Korea and partf oc Northern China.
Japanee Imperialism
The Chinese had little interest in trading with the West. For decades, China exported goods to European merchants but refused to buy European products. China face foreigh influences and civil disruption, leading to European powers establishing spheres of influence- areas where foreighn nations had exclusive trading rights.
