The myth of Erkyna
Long time ago in ancient times, a nymph named Erkyna used to play in a grove on the edge of a gorge of Livadia.
One day she came to play with her good friend Persephone, the daughter of goddess Demeter.
They had brought a white goose with them but as they played, they saw the goose running away. The goose entered a cave and hid under a stone . Erkyna ran after her to catch the goose. As she couldn’t reach it the nymph lifted the large stone.
The moment she lifted the stone, water started springing up from under neath. This water became more and more until it became a whole river.
Unfortunately, the river swallowed both the goose and the nymph, Erkyna.
The small river that still flows across the town of Livadia has been called Erkyna ever since.
The Holy Church of Jerusalem
It's a small church which is located in the south of Livadeia, built on steep rocks near the cave of Zoodochus Pigi. The visitor has to climb about 700 steps to reach the chapel.
