General requirements:

1. The primary principle governing the transmission of French citizenship is 'jus sanguinis'. Under this principle, if you are born to a parent who held French nationality at the time of your birth, you automatically acquire French citizenship by operation of law, regardless of whether you or your ancestors were registered with the French authorities. 2. This principle applies to a chain of filiation. Therefore, in theory, one can assert French citizenship even if the French lineage extends back many generations and the individuals in question have not lived in France. 3. However, there is a 50-year window to register the citizenship that one has acquired automatically. This period begins from the 'establishment of the family abroad'. The count is reset whenever you or any of your ancestors in the French lineage establish residence in France or are treated by the French authorities as citizens. 4. If you were born within the 50-year period since the establishment of your family abroad, but are no longer within the deadline to register for French citizenship automatically acquired, you are eligible for reinstatement into French citizenship (Reintégration dans la nationalité française). This route is designed for individuals who were born French through a chain of filiation but have surpassed the 50-year registration deadline for French citizenship. It serves as a fast naturalization track for such individuals, provided they can demonstrate they have maintained or established professional, economic, cultural, or family ties with France. We can assist yoi in creating those links. 5. After submission, this application normally takes about 8 months to be processed.
