Mice

  • Usually live in social groups
  • 4 - 9 individuals with a dominant male
  • The male mice will locate food sources and lead the group to them
  • When food sources become limited, the strongest members of the group will dominate. The weaker will be forced to forage further afield, feed at riskier times or leave the group.

Rats

  • Usually live in small groups
  • 8 - 15 individuals
  • Each individual will have its own territory but will allow other rats from the colonly to move within it
