The Activity Inclusion Model - Inclusive for Everyone
The Activity Inclusion Model ensures a person-centred approach to inclusion in sport. We consider factors that affect inclusion in sport: the Setting; the Activity; the person's Impairment; and (most importantly) their Ability. This helps us determine which method will suit best:
- Open: Everyone takes part with no modification
- Modified: Activities are modified for the person with a disability within the existing group
- Parallel: Participants are grouped by ability and take part in similar activities to suit ability levels
- Specific: Activities that are specific to people with disabiities & separate from mainstream activity.
Partnership working is integral to the success of the model and in addressing the wider factors that may affect participation in sport & physical activity e.g. income, location, holding more than one protected characteristic.
