Nasce a Recanati, da una famiglia nobile. Nasce con varie disabilità e con una famiglia anaffettiva.

Il padre Monaldo lo affida ad insegnanti ecclesiastici ed iniziano così, come li definisce Leopardi "Sette anni di studio matto e disperatissimo".

Contempla la natura, trasforma le sue lacrime in versi e la sua malinconia in arte.

Inizia a comporre poesie e scrive lo Zibaldone.

Muore a Napoli, dove trascorre i suoi ultimi quattro anni di vita con il suo caro amico Antonio Ranieri.

Si trasferisce a Roma con il permesso della famiglia, ma si rivela essere un'esperienza deludente. Si chiude ancora di più in sè stesso.

Compone una delle sue poesie più note: l'Infinito.

Si trasferisce a Pisa, scrive "A Silvia", ritorna poi a Recanati.

Si sposta a Firenze dove le sue condizioni fisiche non gli permettono di mantere un lavoro, è obbligato a chiedere un sostegno finanziario alla famiglia. A Firenze s'innamora di Fanny Targioni Tozzetti che lo rifuta.

LA FAMIGLIA E LA SFORTUNA

Leopardi non fu mai ricambiato nell'amore, la verità è che lui non sapeva amare, perché i genitori gli tolsero la capacità. Leopardi non si abbatte, si chiede qual è la via per la felicità.

I genitori di Leopardi erano anaffettivi e oppressivi. Erano talmente anaffettivi che non vennero nemmeno a trovarlo al suo punto di morte, non ricambiarono neanche una lettera e gli procurarono un enorme trauma.

Con i fratelli, invece, aveva un buon rapporto basato sul rispetto e l'affetto.

"Il più solido piacere di questa vita è il piacer vano delle illusioni."

Leopardi nacque con varie disabilità: aveva una malattia agli occhi, una tubercolosi ossea, una deviazione della spina dorsale. La deviazione alla spina dorsale lo rendeva gobbo.

All'epoca si credeva che i gobbi portassero fortuna, quindi Leopardi, con molta autoironia diceva alla gente dei numeri vincenti inventati della lotteria.

UN BAMBINO PRODIGIO IN UN BORGO ASFLITTICO

Leopardi era un autodidatta, a dieci anni traduce i testi antichi e compone in italiano e latino. La sua memoria e la sua capacità di ragionamento erano stupefacenti.

Leopardi amava leggere perchè era l'unica risorsa per fuggire alla noia e trovava i libri un mondo diverso rispetto a quello in cui era costretto a vivere.

Il padre voleva far diventare i figli degli ecclesiastici, aveva una biblioteca immensa dove Leopardi trasscorreva i suoi pomeriggi. Leopardi sapeva di essere un genio.

Manda segretamente delle lettere a grandi letterari per farsi notare. Nessuno risponde tranne Pietro Giordani, che coglie l'intelligenza del ragazzo e prova a convincere i genitori a liberarlo, ma senza successo.

“Sono convinto che anche nell'ultimo istante della nostra vita abbiamo la possibilità di cambiare il nostro destino.”

Leopardi vive in un borgo che possiamo definire asflittico, senza offerte di futuro. Prova varie volte la fuga, ma con scarsi risultati.

I TEMI

La solitudine può avere varie forme: può essere legata all'esclusione, al ritrovamento di noi stessi, per fuggire un confronto, per trovare tranquillità o per immaginare e fantasticare.

I temi principali di Leopardi sono: l'inifinito (presente nella poesia "L'infinito"), la solitudine e il dolore (li possiamo trovare nel "Il passero solitario", nello Zibaldone e nelle lettere che manda ai familiari) l'immaginazione, il desiderio, l'antropocentismo e la natura.

Leopardi sceglie di contemplarle tutte e di vivere in un'altra dimensione, incompreso, isolato ed escluso.

La natura è il tema più importante per Leopardi, all'inizio del suo pensiero filosofico la natura è benigna. Successivamente ritiene la natura maligna o meglio matrigna, approfondirà questo pensiero con la teoria del piacere

Riguardando la solitudine, Quasimodo scrisse: "Ognuno sta solo sulla terra trafitto da un raggio di sole ed e subito sera"

Infine la ritiene indifferente. La mancanza di affetto e la solitudine da il desiderio che da a sua volta la felicità, il desiderio è speranza che si trasforma in immaginazione che ci fa giungere all'illusione.

LA TEORIA DEL PIACERE

L'uomo anticamente era felice inconsapevolmente, perchè la conoscenza era limitata, con il progresso l'uomo è più infelice. L'epoca moderna ha voluto spiegare troppo lasciando da parte l'immaginazione.

Leopardi dichiara che l'uomo nasce con un desiderio infinito di felicità, cioè aspirare a un desiderio che quando realizziamo ci regala una durata limitata di soddisfazione.

Leopardi si interroga sulla condizione di vita dell'uomo che ha un bisogno irrefrenabile di felicità. Elabora la teoria del piacere.

“Siate affamati, siate folli.” Steve Jobs ci vuole dire di essere affamati di conoscenza, di andare oltre, proprio come ha fatto Leopardi che anche nella scirttura dei sonetti andava oltre, per "L'infinito" scrisse due quartine e due terzine più un verso.

Questa sete è incolmabile, non siamo mai soddisfatti pienamente. Leopardi incolpa la natura, perché è lei che ci ha creati con questo bisogno. Da questo pensiero nascono le sue operette morali come il "Dialogo della natura e di un islandese".

Un personaggio simile a Leopardi è Steve Jobs che ha avuto molto successo grazie alle sue idee, anche lui affetto da malattie che, però, non lo hanno abbattuto, anzi, lo hanno spinto a fare del suo meglio e a sognare ogni giorno.
