Goal #7 Description

UN Goal #7 aims to expand access to Affordable and Clean Energy in every country. According to the United Nations, there are over 660 million people without access to electricity while there are over 2 billion people who use energy from non-clean sources in their homes.

Desription of the Program

In order to better understand Goal #7, we developed a MATLAB program to analyze 30 years of energy data from South America, Central America and North America. The program allows the user to select a sub-region and the program will output data on total energy consumption versus clean energy consumption.

Target 7.3

Target 7.3 wants to double the global rate of improvement in terms of efficiency; the only indicator is 7.3.1 which focuses on the energy intensity measured in terms of primary energy and GDP.

Targets and Key Indicators

Target 7.1 looks to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services. Indicator 7.1.1 looks at the proportion of the population with access to electricity and indicator 7.1.2 looks at how many use clean and reusable fuels and technology.

The program assigns a number to each sub-region. A user defined function is utilized that takes the user's input, and runs it through a series of "IF" and "ELSEIF" statements to output the appropriate data as a line graph.

IF/ELSEIF Series: Depending on the input, the code goes through a series of statements to output the correct data.

Step 3:

Data from the UN is imported to MATLAB using the READFILE function. The data is converted to arrays for use in step 3.

Options:

Quiz: The user can select to take a short quiz. The quiz uses a series of IF/ELSEIF statements to take the user through the questions. Exit: The user can exit the program and MATLAB using option 5.
