Educators may:

• Model correct articulation of phonemes by modeling mouth positions for challenging sounds, utilizing mirrors to support correct sound production

• Use clapping, table tapping, or hand puppets to reinforce segmentation skills

Educators may:

• Use oral cues (e.g., stretching sounds, whispering) to emphasize isolated sounds in words

• Use manipulatives (e.g., tokens, Legos, letters) to represent sounds in words

• Focus on not more than two phonological awareness skills during a lesson
