Physical Activity and Your Body
Vocab
1. Physical Activity
Learners can:
- Identify changes that occur in the human body during exercise.
- Identify the functions of the different body systems during physical activity.
- Explain the benefits of physical activity.
Objectives
I'm ready!
It is time for an experiment!During this 5-minute period, take note of how your body reacts to physical activity. When you have finished moving, be ready to discuss your observations.
Physical Activity Experiment!
Let's Move!
Continue...
Tell me 2 things you noticed about your body during or after the exericse experiment.
Let's Discuss!
Next
The muscular system and skeletal system work together to create movement!Muscles contract to move the bones. They always pull, NEVER push!
MOVEMENT
- As you exercise, your muscles go to work. Your muscle cells need oxygen and nutrients to make fuel work.
The Circulatory System
- Many people think you need to be in a sport or go to the gym to be Physically Active.
- This is NOT true!
- When thinking about physical activity or energy out, it is important to consider all activities that get you moving!
Very Active
Not Active
Somewhat Active
Energy Output= Movement/Physical Activity
Try mixing up the type of activities so you are working different muscles and getting into different heart rate zones.
Try your best to get 60 minutes of Physical Activity every day!
Definition: Continuous, repeated, large muscle movement done at 60% or more of the max heart rate.Examples:-Running-Jump RopeCompetitive Swim-Playing Basketball, Soccer, etc.
Vigorous Physcial Activity
Definition: Continuous, repeated, large muscle movements done at less than 60% of the max heart rate. Examples:-Walking-Slow Bike Ride-Dance-Playing Catch
VS
Moderate Physical Activity
I'm ready!
Next, we will do an activity...
Let's Prcatice
Playing Catch
Playing Basketball
Jump Rope
Slow Bike Ride
walking
Running
Vigorous Physcial Activity
Moderate Physical Activity
Drag and drop the Exercise to the correct movement category
If you are too hot, the skin makes sweat, and blood vessels near the skin surface dilate to release heat from the skin. This response helps decrease body temperature.
You may have also noticed that you began to sweat as you were exercising. As your muscles move, heat is generated.
