- Middle school Special Education Science - The ocean's food chain - 6-8 grades - Alexis Bova
objective:
Today we will be learning about the food chain under the ocean. Next week we will go into more depth about predators, prey, consumers, producers, and decomposers. But this week we will just be getting an introduction to the basics of the food chain and how it works. There are 8 buttons, including the "secret button" that you need to use in this activity. No need to take notes, please just review and interact with the lesson.
Directions:
1) Start with the audio at the top of the image. I marked "start here" by it so you would know which icon it is. 2) Watch the video in the center of the image and answer the question that is right above it. 3) Then go to number 1 on the image and work your way around the food chain looking at the interactive buttons along the way. 4) Find the secret button with the game linked to it and see how long you can last! HINT: you will have to click around until you find the button!

The base of the oceans food chain is mostly invidible. Made up of single-celled organisms that use the process of photosynthesis to create the nutrients and food. Seaweed and grasses do the same to create the entire basis of the food chain for all animal in the ocean. These plants do all this while also managing to create half of the oxygen on the planet.

Top predators are not only large sharks, but also include whales, tuna, dolphins, seals, and penguins. These animals are fast and skilled at catching their chosed prey. <-- The whales in this image are forming what is called a "kill circle", can you guess what animal is their target? A great white shark!
