Background

An antigen is basically any foreign substance that causes blood to make an immune system response against it!

When blood typing, the blood is tested with different antigens. Based on how they respond, we can figure out what type it is!

Blood Grouping System - Labster

Hemolysis

is where red blood cells get destroyed. This is usually caused by infection, blood transfusion, and some autoimmune conditions.

BLOOD TYPES!

Blood Type A: If you add an atigen that contains Anti-B antibodies in it, this blood will attack it!

Blood Type B: If you add an atigen that contains Anti-A antibodies in it, this blood will attack it!

BLOOD TYPES!

Blood Type AB: If you add an antigen that contains Anti-B & An†i-A antibodies in it, this blood will attack both!

Blood Type O: If you add an antigen that contains Anti-A & Anti-B antibodies in it, this blood will attack none!

BLOOD Transfusion!

Now that we know how blood typing works, let's apply it!

Blood transfusions are where patients need more blood to replenish after major accidents. Doctors perform this by matching the patient's blood with a donor's blood!

BLOOD Transfusion!

It is important to match blood types because if you mix the wrong antigen, the patient's own blood will agglutinate and it could be lethal.

The Wolf's house

The second house hides some tricky mysteries... Have a go!

KNOCK

1/3

It's important to determine the blood group of both the donor and the recipient before blood is transfused

idk...

2/3

What is the difference between blood type A and blood type B ( scientifically)?

A is sweeter than B

Blood type B is thicker

Blood type A agglutinates with Anti-serum A

3/3

Does blood type O contain antigens?

YES

No

Antigens Vs. Antibodies

Antigens - a substance that the body recognizes as foreign. Most of them are foreign proteins (ex. part of viruses/ bacteria).

Antibodies - A substance released by the body's immune system to defend against the antigen!

2/7

What is the difference between an antigen and antibody?

antigens defend against antibodies

there is no difference
