introduction
A brilliant teacher
Maria Montessori was an Italian woman who marked a before and an after on the way of teaching and learning. Her studies and methods have had a major influence on education programs all over the world, and are considered part of the best teching resources. For this reason, she is widely belived as one of the most influential teachers of the XX century.

A curious young girl
Maria Tecla Artemisia Montessori was born in 1870 in Chiaravalle, a beautiful town at the centre of Italy. She was born in a bourgeois family, surrounded by books and culture. Her uncle Antonio Stoppani tough her that the best way of learning is with love and curiosity. They both used to hike at the mountains, observing and learning from the nature.

A successful student
When she grew up, she wanted to be a scientist, like her uncle, who was a geologist. So, she made up her mind to study medicine. Her father didn't like my decision, but her mother approved it enthusiastically. She told her to never give her dreams up. In 1890, she started college at La Sapienza, Roma's university. She was the very only woman in class, and may men didn't like it. Howhever, she passed all the subjects with very good marks, and became the first woman to graduate in medicine in Italy, in 1896.

From doctor to teacher
After she get her degree in medicine, she started working at a mental hospital. There, she worked with people with mental diseases. Some of them were children that couldn't go to school, and were told "deficient" by the other doctors. She used to observe them playing with bread, and she drew up the conclusion that they were bored, and playing was a very good way of learning. Then, she had the purpose to teach them at a special school. Resultantly, they get good marks, and some of them were even better than "normal" kids. The secret? They had learnt by playing.

a new way of school
In 1907, she opened a school at one of the most pover neighbourhoods, the Casa dei Bambini. There, she let the children learn by playing and staying in contact with nature and manipulable material. They learnt fast, at when they were 5 years old, they already knew to read and write, and some numbers.
Conclusion-summary
Soon, they appeared many Houses of the Children around the world. At that time, she travelled a lot, to talk about her methods and the best way of teaching. When it finished WW II, she moved to Noordwijk, a little town in the Netherlands. In 1952, she died while she was preparing a new journey to help Ghana's teachers. Maria Montessori has become an influential teacher, and the Montessori Method is used in lots of schools all over the world. She tough us that:
