Language Objective

I will be able to use appropriate academic language to define and discuss classroom vocabulary words.

Learning Intention

To develop a deeper understanding of academic classroom vocabulary words and their usage in academic settings.

Success Criteria

  • Students will accurately define at least 80% of the academic vocabulary words.
  • Students will demonstrate their understanding of academic vocabulary words through successful completion of formative assessments.

Do Now:

  • Read the sentence below and write down any words in the chat you don't understand.
  • "In the literary analysis discussion, students were able to articulate their thoughts clearly, employing sophisticated vocabulary to analyze the nuances of the protagonist's motivations and the author's use of symbolism."

Define

During class, you will hear a variety of words. Some words may be unfamiliar to you. As you learn more words, you will be able to better understand classroom instruction. You should always try to use new words that you learn so that you can expand your vocabulary. Some words that you will hear during classroom instruction are considered academic words. Academic words are words commonly used in school and in the workplace. *Watch StudySync Video
