The main aim

This project is an excellent opportunity to help where needed, learn new skills, spend time abroad, maybe learn a language – and definitely come back with unforgettable memories.

Volunteering project is to foster an open dialogue between international volunteers and the local community in order to enhance citizens' participation, their social inclusion and engagement in civil society by involving them in local cultural activities, which are run with and for local people.

Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury nr 2 (MDK2)

MDK2 - this is a cultural center engaged in non-formal education and extracurricular activities. Classes are held for children, teenagers and adults. The program offer mainly concerns art, music, sports and language activities, as well as youth activities, in which children from kindergarten to students can participate. MDK2 cooperates with kindergartens, schools, other cultural centers and NGO organizations. Organizes and conducts local, regional and international events. MDK2 is located in the center of Piekary Śląskie. The institution has a large territory and many classrooms and workshops for holding events and workshops.

The town's population is more than 54,000. The city has many attractions. Near one of them is MDK2. The city has many cultural and educational institutions, sports and entertainment facilities, parks and stadiums. The city has its own TV and radio channels, also well-developed logistics system. Every year, the city celebrates several local holidays, organizing concerts, exhibitions, festivals, in which MDK2 also takes part.

Activities

MDK2 is a youth center that works with children and young people, organizing the following activities with the help of volunteers and animators: - Integration activities: games and recreational activities, trips to sights and cultural places, various workshops (cooking, making toys, drawing, fine arts, music , theater, dance etc.) to encourage communication and cultural exchange - Active participation and involvement: participation in local cultural events and festivals, joint projects with other youth organizations, art exhibitions, theater plays and performances, competitions and talent shows - Environmental campaigns and projects: seminars on global issues, environmental practices and responsible citizenship, nature studies and environmental initiatives - and other

Objectives

- Deepen and develop connections between volunteers and the local community, participate in activities, planned by Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury nr 2, and help workers.- Exchange the culture through the workshops, that are organized by you, and build bridges between volunteers, youth, and childrens, with help from your hosting organization. you will be able to organize and perform different kinds of activities, will have access to MDK2 recourse, and be able to use it for your workshops. - To spread information about European Solidarity Corps, Erasmus+, and other European opportunities among local citizens. make meetings at schools - To provide opportunities for the volunteers’ and target groups personal growth, and development of competencies and capacities through participation in local activities made by volunteers; - To promote solidarity through volunteering on the local, national and international levels;

Accommodations

Each volunteer will have his own room in an apartment in the Bytom. The apartments include: 3 rooms, large kitchen, bathroom, drying room, all necessary appliances and utensils. The apartments are located in the city center. Nearby there is a shopping center, the main square of the city, supermarkets and parks. Transport logistics are also very convenient nearby.

The city has many entertainment facilities for leisure, a large library, an opera, museums, galleries, a shopping center, parks, lakes, sports facilities. The city also hosts several open festivals and events for the city's residents every year.

Start of volunteering program: end of March/April

Travel costs: max 360 EUR (distance 2000-2999 km) or for travel distances between 500 and 1 999 KM: EUR 275

Insurance : CIGNA

Pocket money and food: 9 EUR per day

Working hours: 30-35 working hours per week

Days off: two days off are available for each month

Term: 12 months
