CERAMICS

CERAMICS THAT ARE COARSE AND PERMEABLE

CERAMICS THAT ARE FINE ARE WATERPROOF

This is special ceramic material contains metal oxides. It can resist temperatures above 2000ºC. It´s used inside ovens and also for electronic components.

REFRACTORY

This is red, brown or orange baked clay. It´s fragile. It´s normally used for bricks, roof tiles and plant pots.

TERRACOTTA

This is made from white clay with silica and feldspar. It´s smooth and fine. Once glazed, it´s normally used for plates and dishes, ornaments and bathroom tiles.

EARTHWARE

This is made from white clay called china clay (kaolinite). It can be translucent. It´s very compact and so hard it can´t be scratched by steel. It´s also resistant to acids. It´s used for crockery, ornaments, bathroom tiles and material for the chemical industry.

PORCELAIN

This is made from stoneware clay. It´s baked at a higher temperature than earthenware. When it´s baked it looks shiny. It´s dense, resistant and very hard. Stoneware can scratch glass. It´sused for floor tiles, pipes and bricks.

STONEWARE

We make ceramics by moulding wet clay and then baking it a very high temperatures, between 700ºC and 1700ºC. There are two main types of ceramics.
