Children Survive Torpedo Attack
City of Benares sank carrying hundreds of kid evacuees!
The children were evacuating because of the Germans. The Germans were attacking the UK in the Blitz. The City of Benares left on Friday the 13th and was going to Canada when a U-boat sank it. Before the attack, there was a playground and a lot of food for the children. They were living their best life. Then the attack happened in the night. The children were sleeping. Some were still in their pajamas when they got in the lifeboats. One of the kids, Ken Sparks, spotted a plane. The plane radioed to a boat, and the boat picked them up. The survivors were on the lifeboat for eight days before they were rescued.

Trench Foot is Dangerous
Not many survived!
Trench foot can happen when you have wet feet, and you can't do anything about it. Your skin starts to look moldy. The skin starts to turn colors. You can lose the feeling, and it's very painful. You might even lose your foot. Some of the kids on Lifeboat 12 had it.
Hundreds of kids and passengers were on the City of Benares, but not many survived. Only thirteen kids survived. The wind and rough water destroyed many of the other lifeboats. In Lifeboat 12, they had minimal food and water.
