We use used to talk about past habits
We use the past perfect to show an action happened before another. The past perfect always comes first.
We use the past perfect continuous in a similar way but it describes a longer action in progress before another in the past.
We use the past continuou to describe an action in progress and interupted by another in the past simple
We use the past simple to describe a series of completed events in the order they happened. ( chronological order)
