Greek Homes
Ancient Greek houses were typically made of mud bricks and wood. They were often small, with a single story and a courtyard. The size of the house depended on the wealth of the owner. The houses of wealthy Greeks could be quite large, with multiple rooms and a garden
Acropolis
The acropolis was located on the highest ground and contained the important municipal and religious buildings. The Greek root acro- means "high;" thus, an acropolis is basically a "high city". Why do you think this area was built on high ground?
Agora
A marketplace and an area for gathering.
Stadium
The Greeks enjoyed sporting events and contests. They built large stadiums and had gymnasiums. The hippodrome was a stadium designed to hold chariot races.
Theatre
Place where plays were held during festivals. Greek theater was a popular form of entertainment. Some theaters were large enough to hold over 10,000 people. Theaters were built into the side of a hill.
Walls
To protect the city in case of attack.
Port
A smaller settlement where ships docked.
Temples
There were temples to the gods around the agora and in the Acropolis. Most cities had a single god that the city was dedicated to. They would have a special large area and temple for their patron god
