Aya's science class
Learning objective
Today, we will learn about the different body parts of animals and how they help them live, move, and eat in their habitats
Body parts
Animal body parts are the different parts of an animal's body that help them perform specific functions, such as moving, eating, and surviving in their environment
Fur
Fur is the soft and thick coat of hair that covers the body of many mammals. It serves various functions such as providing protection and camouflage
Examples
- Polar bears have thick white fur keeping them warm while hunting for seals on ice
- Beavers have dense, waterproof fur that keeps them warm in water, enabling them to thrive in aquatic habitat
Legs
Legs help animals move from one place to another, and also helps them run away or run towards their prey.
Examples
- Cheetahs have long legs that enable them to sprint at incredible speeds, making them the fastest land animals
- Kangaroos have large legs with strong muscles, allowing them to hop long distances and reach high speed
Body Part Guessing Game!
Students will be shown pictures of animal body parts and be asked to guess what each part is used for.
Tail
The tail is an extension of an animal's body that protrudes from the back. It serves various functions such as balance, communication, and defense
Examples
- Peacocks have long colorful tails that they use to attract mates
- Monkeys have tails that they use like an extra hand to grasp branches and navigate through trees
Match the Body Part!
A game where students will drag and drop pictures of animal body parts to match them with their functions.
