Why I chose this topic
Title - Is Generative AI more Beneficial or Dangerous to Education?
An interesting topicVery relevant currently and relevant to my future careerlinks to my A-Level subject computer scienceA chance to research more about AI and its uses
aims and objectives
The aim to discuss the various risks and rewards of generative AI in education,to determine whether Generative AI will benefit or damage education in the long term and whether or not it should be implemented
- Objective 1 – to introduce Generative AI and the current uses in education.
- Objective 2 – to evaluate the benefits and potential problems of Generative AI to educators.
- Objective 3 – to evaluate the benefits and potential problems of Generative AI to students.
- Objective 4 – to evaluate the risk of Bias and misinformation as a result of Generative AI
- Objective 5 – to evaluate the risk of lost creativity as a result of Generative AI
- Objective 6 – to conclude and determine to what extent Generative AI should be implemented into education.
Methodology
My Approach:
I first created a detailed plan of what i wanted to include in my report.I used the project management calendar to guide me on my goals and targets for my report.I decided to research each of my objectives seperately - I would research each objective then write it.Used the markscheme to inform me on what to do, how to begin my report and what to include.
Main Findings
01
ChatGPT was released on the 30th of November 2022 and has since been reshaping society by transforming how people interact with each other, companies, and online platforms in their day-to-day life

Generative AI in Education
users after 5 days
In October of 2023, the UK government unveiled a plan to invest £2 million into Oak National Academy, a teaching resource, to “improve and expand Artificial Intelligence tools for teachers”
However, there is a debate on whether Generative AI is more beneficial or dangerous to education - and how it will impact the education system overall.
AI could provide a personalised learning environment for many, and would provide a unique experience for each student.
42% of students use ChatGPT to solve maths problems, 41% to write essays and 25% to translate something into a foreign language
educators can use it to plan lessons, write emails and reduce the overall workload.
Benefits to educstors
AI has the potential to provide unequal access to education if the data it has been trained on is not representative of all students which could cause an educational divide.
benefits to students
as AI is accessible by anyone with an internet connection, the lessons and lesson plans that are created for the teachers by this technology will not be unique to the teacher
AI can provide students with comprehensive answers and responses to an almost infinite number of questions and can handle a wide range of language processing tasks
over reliance on AI could undermine analytical skills and lead to a lack of intellectual curiosity and independent thinking in the future
AI bias can be found in the initial training data, the algorithm, or the predictions the algorithm produces which can hinder the potential of AI.
As AI is trained on data that has been created by humans, it reflects the cultural political and societal perspectives which exist in this data, which ultimately leads to biased outputs.
As AI advances, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish AI-generated content from human-written information, and in certain cases is even perceived to be a more credible source
dangers of ai
the continued unwavering reliance on AI could be responsible for the loss of human creativity and independence in the future
The widespread availability of these AI models has caused many students and people in general to immediately ask AI for answers to questions rather than think about it themselves
conclusion
Generative AI has the potential to drastically impact multiple spheres of life, and in this age of technology and electronics, will undoubtedly influence how humans interact with each other and the world around them as well. It has already been beneficial for both students and teachers, and with further advancements could transform the entire education system. . It is essential, therefore, that all aspects of Generative AI are carefully regulated through laws and policies to ensure there is no ethical threat that could compromise an otherwise valuable automation.
resources
I used a variety of resources when researching for my topiccreadibility - reports cited by lots of peoplevariety - reports, articles, studies, journalsrelevance - most journals written in last 3 years - up to datereliable - published reports from websites such as Cambridge.Orgreferencing - cited all my references in a bibliography at the end of my reportMy resources were evaluated in my research log I also kept track of my progress using the production log, which I updated regularly
drawbacks
evaluation
successes
- conducted research for each objective
- included for and against arguments for each objective
- Included data and research from reliable sources
- Timing - was able to reach all my and supervisors deadlines
- although I conducted thorough research, I struggled to find relaible sources and research for my 5th objective - I used the RAVEN method to help with this
- although I kept up to date with my activity and production log, I fell behind on evaluating my sources in my research log - I have caught up with this
Changes i made
how I modified my report
I was able to stick to my original plan when i first started my report.however, when researching for objective 3, i struggled to find enough credible research - i decided to modify my original plan to complete objective 4 before objective 3.at the beginning, i also struggled to find a suitable topic for my report, so many of my original plans were changed with my changing titles.my most prominet change in title was when i changed from 'the dangers and benefits of fgenerative AI'to'Is generative AI more beneficial or dangerous to education?'this new title helped me narrow down my ideas and made my research easier.
+INFO
01
ORGANISATION
ensure my work was well organised and planned out so I could reach my deadlines and made my report writing easier
02
RESEARCH
proper research methods and how to evaluate sources - also learnt how to reference sources
03
REPORT WRITING
first long form report I've written - learning curve but managed to plan effectively in order to complete my report.
04
TIME MANAGEMENT
had to plan my time out carefully to ensure I met my deadlines and my final report was to the best of my abilities
skills i learnt
timing
IMPROVEMENTS
01
Although my timing was good, I would set specific days to complete my report next time so i can plan out what parts to complete.
02
primary reserch
I would conduct primary research with questionaires and i would test ChatGPTs ability to answer different questions
03
logs
I fell behind on my research log, and had to catch up later - next time, I would stay up to date with all of my logs.
