PASSIVE VOICE

Let's begin!

How is the passive built?

Active sentences are about what people (or things) do, while passive sentences are about what happens to people (or things). The passive voice is formed by using a form of the auxiliary verb “be” (be, am, is, are, was, were, being, been) followed by the past participle of the main verb. It can also be combined with modal verbs.

What do we use Passive for?

The passive voice is used to show interest in the person or object that experiences an action rather than the person or object that performs the action. -Kevin is supported by his girlfriend. Use passive verbs when you do not want to specify the actor. -Crimes were commited. Active voice is used to emphasize the doer while passive voice is used when we need to highlight the work done.

Reported Speech isn't passive

Reported speech and passive voice are completely different, because passive voice is used when the object becomes into the subject and the reported speech is used when we want to say what another person has said. Ex: RP: He said that he is going to wash his car today. Ex: Passive: That new car is being washed by him. That car is washed every Sunday.

You are doing great!
