We are All Special

In our first day in Athens, we had an introduction to the course ""We are All Special"" and the school. After of that, the participants showed some presentations of their schools from Spain, Italy, Poland and Rumania. Finally, we were discussing about the nature of Special Needs and what do we mean by the term special needs, barriers and accessibility (specific learning disability, emotional disturbance, autism, intellectual disabilities, other health impairment, speech or language impairment, etc.). It was so interesting!

INCLUSION

Next days, we were talking about if diversity is an easy issue for teacher. We did a collaborative work sharing different points of view. It was an amazing experience to understand the process to inclusion, thinking about the importance of the concept of learning community with teachers, families and students.

ADDAPTATION

On wednesday and thursday, we were talking about disruptive behaviour. Furthermore, we were reflexing about the importance of communication and motivation, differentiating the learning environment and some types of learning styles. Finally, the session analyzed the curricula adaptations, accomodations and modifications. Then, we worked in groups accomodating and addapting the curricula to UDL.

HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES

Last day, we enjoyed with a serie of hands-on activities to prevent isolation and disruptive behaviours from the beginning of the school year, considering peer interaction and peer support as fundamental elements to build social skills, self-confidence and cope with stress and helplessness.
