What was the Third Agricultural Revolution?

  • The Third Agricultural Revolution started in the early 20th century after WWII.
  • The Third Agricultural Revolution [The Green Revolution] was a period in time when agricultural practices were improved significantly. Ex: Biotechnology, Fertilizer and Pesticides
  • Most of the Third Agricultural Revolution took place in warmer climates. Ex: Mexico is considered the birthplace of the Third Agricultural Revolution

Third Agricultural Revoltuion Pros:

  • Major Increase in food production
  • Increased Population
  • Low food prices
  • People got richer from selling goods
  • Major drop in famine

Third Agricultural Revoltuion Cons:

  • Environmental harm Ex: Deforestation, Soil Exhaustion
  • Health Hazards like drinking fertilizer on accident
  • Quality of soil is lower because it is being used more
  • Some countries didn't have the technology other countries did

What influenced the Third Agricultural Revolution?

  • People saw the success of the last agricultural revolution and decided to improve on it by making bigger and better crops to sell
  • Norman Borlaug aka the "Father of the Green Revolution"

How does the Third Agricultural Revolution effect us now?

  • We still use these methods of farming in our modern-day lives
  • It has also affected the population of many places because without the Agricultural Revolutions we would suffer from mass famine
