Training Data
- AI is changing the landscape of how we learn and work BUT while it is a useful tool, it should not replace your own work.
- Think, Pair, Share - You have 3 mins
- Think back to our 1st assessment workshop - what is the purpose of assessments?
- Why would this mean using AI in assessments could be problematic?
Generative AI creates content (for example; text, images, code, and music) based on user prompts.
It predicts outcomes by analysing existing data in different forms such as text, images, video, and audio.
Gen AI is trained on existing data to understand contexts and patterns for creating content.

Language Processing
Generative AI effectively processes and interprets human language and generates relevant responses in multiple languages.
Generative AI produces diverse outputs based on learned patterns and prompts provided by users.
It generates responses rapidly, making it suitable for real-time applications across various domains
Gen AI may produce inaccurate or misleading content, leading to potential misinformation. It does not understand the content it produces and does not allow for the development of originality of thought. It can also be BIASED and perpetuate errors
It can create morally or ethically troubling content and may imitate existing content without permission. It can be used to generate fake news and Deepfakes.
Reliance on AI can hinder the development of skills essential for success in university and the workplace, critical thinking, research, structuring, linguistic and many more
Can you use it at LISC?
- Academic Misconduct - Using AI to pass off work as your own is considered academic misconduct and violates academic integrity policies.
- Prohibited Assessments - Some assessments prohibit the use of AI to demonstrate personal skills and knowledge in academic work.
- Assitive Role - for some (not all) assessments AI can be used to assist in drafting, providing inspiration, or aiding research while maintaining critical perspective.
