An unlucky St. Patrick's Day

Start

An unlucky St. Patrick's Day

Myra and Aislin went to the parade. But it turned out very differently than it had in the years before. When Myra and Aislin had arrived at the main street, they were able to hear already hear people singing songs. After they had arrived at their favourite place to watch the parade, they looked for their friends. When they had caught sight of Nila’s eye-catching violet hair they made their way through the crowd. After Nila and Henry had seen them, they waved to them excitedly. After a lot of groups and wagons had passed them, a man ran past them and grabbed Myra’s bag. The girls screamed, because they were shocked. Henry ran after the strange man once he had recovered from the shock.

Help them to find the thief and collect the clues

To find possible suspects, thd police needs to find out exactly what had happened before Myra lost her bag.

The past perfect

-We use the past perfect to express an action in the past that happened before another action. -We form the past perfect with had+past participle. -For negation we use had not/hadn’t + past participle. -In questions we use had not/hadn’t + subject+past participle. Signal words are before and after. IMPORTANT: The past perfect is a form, native speakers do not usually use very often. That’s why we are going to take a closer look at when to use it and when to use the simple past. Then we will “correct” our texts from today. So please bring them with you. Remember: How we use it today is to learn the form.

The end of the story

After the girls had finished their report at the police station they still weren't able find Henry. So they went back to where they had last seen him and started calling out his name. The girls had stopped crying, when a little green man showed up. “Why are you crying, my fair ladies?” Myra and her friends were shocked because the little man had arrived suddenly. “Are you a leprechaun?” asked Nila carefully. “Yes, I am! Didn’t you know that we walk the streets freely on St. Patrick’s Day? But because there are so many people disguised as leprechauns, nobody realizes.” Then he smiled and before the girls started screaming again, he held Myra’s bag in his hands. After he had given it back to her, he said: “We leprechauns are truly magical! Today is your lucky day!” and vanished.
