Carmen Laffón de la Escosura was a Spanish painter and figurative sculptor. She was born in Seville on October 8, 1934 and she died on November 7, 2021 in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. She was born to a cultured, progressive and well-off family. Artistic career

artistic career

Her beginnings in painting were at the age of 12 due to the painter Manuel González Santos, who was a family friend and her father's former drawing teacher. She entered the School of Fine Arts in Seville at the age of 15 and after spending 3 years studying at the institution she moved to the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where she finished her degree.

  • In 1975, she approached the world of artistic teaching at the School of Fine Arts of Seville where she would remain until 1981.
  • Also She received the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1982.
  • In 1992, she had an exhaustive exhibition at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, which covered her entire artistic career.
  • In 2013, she was named Favorite Daughter of Andalusia.
The main technique she used was oil paint. What she mainly did were portraits (like the one of Sofia of Greece), still life, everyday objects and, in a special way, landscapes. Later, in the 90s, she explored the world of sculpture.

This paint is in the Museo Reina Sofía, in Madrid, and it's painted by oil on cavas. We can see that the paint is of a landscape, it's inspired of a village called Coria del Rio, in Sevilla. The tones that are used in this paint are very similiar, regardless of that, we can distinguish a river and some bushes. It was made between 1983 and 1985, and its dimensions are 65 by 108 centimetres.

This paint is in La Colección Banco de España, and it's painted by oil on cavas. This is one of the portraits that Camen Laffón did to the kings of Spain, we can see that this is the queen consort, Sofía of Greece. Like in the other paint, we can see that the tones are very similiar, this is a characteristic in the paints of Carmen Laffón, also we can see that the paint is very bright. It was made in 1988, and its dimensions are 221 by 171 centimetres.
