Genre

"Scott Pilgrim VS. The World" (2010) is an action and comedy movie with science-fiction aspects to it. It is based on the graphic novel series titled "Scott Pilgrim" by Brian Lee O'Malley. The movie appeals to teenagers due to it's action and comedy heavy parts and having many video game influences making it stand out from other films.

Tone - Comedy

The films comedic elements are mainly shown through character dialogue mainly through Scott and Wallace. For example, when they're at battle of the bands and the band 'Crash and The Boys' takes the stage and Wallace yells "Is that girl a boy too?" Also when Scott meets Ramona and goes on his tangent about Pac-Man. Also when Scott is fighting Roxy and Wallace says "Kick her in the balls". Wallace is not an important character to the movie but he provides a lot of good one-liners through his witty and uncaring personality. Scott's comedic moments are shown through his awkwardness and general lack of severity towards what is going on. This is very clear when he's talking to Wallace as their relationship feels more parent-child rather than roommates.

Tone - Tense

The films tense moments are often when Scott is fighting Ramona's exes as the viewer doesn't know if he'll defeat them or not. The tense feelings increase as each fight begins and each ex gets stronger and uses weapons like Lucas Lee's stunt doubles and Todd Ingram's vegan superpowers. When Scott goes to fight Gideon a second time, the tense tone is very present as the viewer knows that this is Scott's last chance to win against Gideon for Ramona.

Scott is happy with his girlfriend Knives and is playing bass-guitar for his band "Sex-Bob-Omb".He has a dream about a pink-haired girl and then sees her in real life, immediately becoming infatuated with her. They begin to date and he dumps Knives but he then finds out that he will have to date her 7 evil exes. When the first evil ex Matthew Patel shows up at the battle of the bands. He defeats each ex in their battle and even though he and Ramona break up along the way, he wins her back and gives Knives an apology for cheating on her.Scott and Ramona are dating and live happily ever after.

Representation - Scott

Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is a socially-awkward guy who doesn't like to take responsibility for anything. Despite being the protagonist in this story, he makes choices mainly thinking of himself like not breaking up with Knives after cheating on her with Ramona because he finds breaking too hard and continuing to fight Gideon after he and Ramona broke up because he wants to win this fight for himself.

Representation - Knives

Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) is very childish and naive. She's very obsessed with Scott and hates Ramona for "stealing" Scott despite him cheating on her, she's directed her anger at the wrong person because she's blinded by her love for Scott.

Representation - Ramona

Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is a very mysterious yet confident character. She's spent her whole life moving and not knowing what's coming next and has never properly settled anywhere. Her unpredicable nature is shown through her ever-changing hair colour and her constantly being on the move is shown through her wearing rollerskates.
