Regina Walker Case Review
Regina Walker was brought to the emergency room (ER) at 6am with severe pain from metastasized stage IV breast cancer. Mrs. Walker’s husband reports that she has been unable to eat anything more than a few bites each meal. He also reportsthat her last bowel movement was four days ago, and that she seems weak and agitated. Mrs. Walker stopped treatment for her breast cancer one month ago. Her breakthrough pain medication needs have increased from two or three doses to six doses per day, in addition to long-term morphine every twelve hours.
- Multiple Types of Pain: experiencing bone pain in legs and ribs, hypercalcemia due to breast cancer, & constipated with abdominal pain due to medication
- Hospice Care Ready: Mrs. Walker mentions that she is ready for hospice care several times during her assessment.
You advocate for Mrs. Walker’s choices, needs, and options as you provide care.
