I berberi costituiscono un gruppo etnico autoctono. I berberi comprendono quelle popolazioni di lingua berbera che non sono state arabizzate e rappresentano una vasta minoranza delle popolazioni dell'Africa settentrionale. Sottogruppo berbero sono i Tuaregh.

I Tuaregh sono nomadi cammellieri. Sono chiamati "Uomini blu" perché si vestono di abiti di lana, materiale assai isolante, di colore blu, che a poco a poco tinge la loro pelle.
