IRISH DANCE

Origins, types and clothing

ORIGINS

Irish dance dates back 2000 years before Christ, when the druids danced for the oak tree and the sun. It was a religious dance.

This dance changed in the course of the years, influenced by different cultures and populations, with the migrations and the invasions in Ireland For example, several centuries BC, the Celts arrived in Ireland and brought with them their own folk dances. Or, in the 12th century, when the Anglo-Normans invaded Ireland, the Irish dance was influenced by the carol. In the 18th century saw the emergence of dance teachers, who teached to the farmers in villages. Shows were organized at the local funfair between the rival teachers. The solo irish dance with tap-dancing came into being only at the end of the 19th century !! 1893 = gaelic ligue created
