Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

  • What happens if I don't score proficient?
That's okay! Keystones are a graduation requirement, but they are not the only pathway to meet that requirement. If you don't score proficient, you can choose another pathway to follow. However, it's best to take the Keystones first!
  • When can I retake the tests?
Tests are offered in the Spring of each year and the following Winter. If you want to retake one of the tests you take in the Spring, you can do so in the Winter of the following school year.
  • What happens if I don't take any of the tests?
Your test scores and participation will not affect your grades. However, the Keystones are a state mandated test, so taking and passing them is one way to fulfill your graduation pathway. Additionally, school districts are penalized for each eligible student who does not take the tests, so while it might not affect you directly, lack of participation can have a negative impact on the school.
  • Why can't I just take it online at home?
The Keystones are a state mandated test that by law, must be monitored by certified test administrators. Students must take the tests under the supervision of a test administrator, and the contents are not permitted to be shared.
