why is packaging important?

Many different materials are biodegradable and non-biodegradable.This is important as Non-biodegradable waste does not decompose. it accumulates in the environment and causes biomagnification; as a result of this accumulation, they pollute soil and water; they pollute the environment. When you buy from shops you should always pay attention to the type of packaging used in a product,it will say if it is recyclable.

Tinned items - we can bring our own tins and fill them with the product of our choosing to reduce waste or return tins after use they could be rewarded for this as well. milk - Stations to refill glass milk bottles. You can find these at shops such as M&S and Morrisons Or cardboard cartons like they do for oatmilk. Buy from a milkman jars - these could also be reused and after a good clean filled again cereal - we can use the cardboard to make DIY art recycle them and in upcycling projects.

What are supermarkets doing to make their packaging more sustainable?

Waitrose and Lidl have been voted the most sustainable supermarkets in the UK. Both of these brands (and others) have taken pledges to reduce plastic in their packaging. There are many ways they are doing this,for example: Waitrose are using clear caps for milk bottles instead of coloured ones as they can be recycled back into food grade packaging Lidl has removed plastic from their fruit and veg by removing millions of stickers and tags.
