The Little Fadette
This book was published in 1849. It is one of George Sand's pastoral novels who tells the story of the Barbeau family, more specifically the twins Landry and Sylvinet. For financial reasons, the father of the family decided to have Landry work for one of his neighbours, which makes Sylvinet extremely sad. Landry becomes friends with the little Fadette, a girl with healing powers, who is mocked by everyone in the village because of her appearance. This friendship will turn into a love story, which will drive the twin Sylvinet mad with jealousy.
Why I chose this author ?
- I really like the way she writes
- She was one of the first to speak positively of the peasantry
- She was a free woman and I think she's an example of that
- Her life was very eventful, which influenced her writings
