Similarities between Frankenstein and the development of AIs
Ethical Responsibility: Just as Dr. Frankenstein bears responsibility for the actions of his creation, developers and researchers in AI have a responsibility to consider the ethical implications of their work. Fear of the Unknown: Similar to how society fears and rejects Dr. Frankenstein's creation due to its unfamiliarity and monstrous appearance, there can be fear and skepticism surrounding AI due to its complexity and potential to disrupt various aspects of society. Creation of Life/Intelligence: In both "Frankenstein" and the development of AI, there is the theme of creating something that mimics or surpasses human capabilities. Dr. Frankenstein creates the creature out of various body parts, while AI researchers aim to create intelligent systems that can perform tasks traditionally associated with human intelligence.
"Frankenstein" is a classic novel written by Mary Shelley. It tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who becomes obsessed with creating life. Using unconventional methods, he succeeds in bringing a creature to life, but he is horrified by its appearance and abandons it. The creature, rejected and alone, seeks revenge on its creator, leading to a tragic chain of events that explores themes of ambition, responsibility, and the consequences of playing god. Through the struggles of Victor and his creature, Shelley delves into questions about the nature of humanity, the dangers of unchecked scientific ambition, and the importance of empathy and understanding.
