Buddhist statues

Describe to your partner what you can see, listen to the audio and answer the questions.

Water is special for many Buddhists. It symbolises being clean, clear in our thoughts and calm. When we pour water over a statue of Buddha, it reminds us to think good thoughts and be kind to everyone.
What does water mean to some people? How is water considered an important element in this ritual? How do some people believe water can help them?

Buddhist blessings

In a water blessing ceremony, monks sprinkle water gently over everyone's heads. This water has been blessed, which means it is filled with good wishes and positive thoughts from the monks. When the water touches you, it is like receiving gifts of kindness, love, happiness and good luck. It is meant to wash away anything sad or worrying, leaving you feeling happy and peaceful inside.
What do you think the water means to the people being blessed? How is water considered an important element in this ritual? How do some people believe the water can help them?
