Synopsis:

Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc's enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

In this presentation, i will be shOWing the accuracy of the gods portrayed in this show

Khonshu in moon knight:

Khonshu's character in Moon Knight is seen as an older man with a falcon skull as a head and wields a gold staff with a crescent moon. He is known to have quite a temper. He's also seen as an evil god in the beginning until Ammit is introduced.

Khonshu is depicted as the Moon god. An outcast from the other gods who is waging an "a one- god war on perceived injustices". He is also known as the god judgement. The other gods tend to cast him out of affairs due to his temper.

Khonshu in actual mythology:

Khonshu is a young child, not an old man. He is the god of the moon and time. He does also has a history of being a "violent and dangerous god" in earlier Egyptian history. But in Coffin texts, he is known as a gentle and compassionate god

Accuracy Rating: 7.5/10

Ammit in moon knight

Ammit is the antagonist of Khonshu in Moon Knight. She also judges people for their wrongdoings. But Ammit judges them before even committing the sin. She is also known as the "Devourer of the Dead". Her avatar used a scarab to unleash her full power onto the world.

Ammit in actual mythology

Ammit was a beast who symbolized judgment. She devoured souls that were not pure and did not reconcile their sins before passing. In Egyptian mythology, there is no scarab that unleashes Ammit. She sits at the feet of Thoth, the scribe god.

Accuracy Rating: 8/10

Taweret in Moon knight

Taweret is the hippo goddess tasked with shepherding Marc/Steven through the Duat to the Field of Reeds. Taweret's on-screen appearance almost matches that of her ancient depiction. She has the head of a hippo, the limbs of a lion, and the tail of a crocodile.

Despite this rather beastly image, Taweret was a revered goddess who presided over childbirth. She protected laboring mothers by chasing evil spirits away. She could also be found at the gates of the underworld, helping newly arrived souls with their rebirth.

Taweret "The great one" in egyptian myTHology

Taweret is known as the goddess of fertility and rebirth. Her hair always parted as here into three 'lappets', is that of a woman, but only her arms and drooping, postnatal breasts resemble human members. Her legs belong to a lion, her head and body are those of a hippopotamus, and the tail of a crocodile trails behind her.

Accuracy Rating: 9/10

Discussion questions

  • NUMBER THREE
  • NUMBER ONE

Why do you think their appearances are so different compared to how they are depicted in actual mythology?

Do you believe the accuracy of the show corresponds with actual mythology?

  • NUMBER TWO

Would you have change anything in the show?

Khonshu vs. ammit

I just enjoy this scene :)

In conclusion, the gods are depicted fairly well throughout this series. There are some differences but not too great that the accuracy isn't credible.
