Getting Started From a Template

Step 3

Step 1

Find the template you would like to use, view it, and then press "Use this template." (Press the image below to enlarge it.)

Create your Genially from a template or from a blank creation if you want to try starting from scratch. (Press the image above to enlarge it.)

Select the slides from the template that you would like to use. I recommend selecting all of them because it is easy to delete the ones later that you don't plan to use. (Press the image above to enlarge it.)

Step 2

Getting to Know the Editing Tools

Now that you have your template ready, it is time to start making the Genially your own. Continue on to learn about each of the options in your editing tool bar on the left hand side of your screen. Your main tool bar will look like the image to the right.

Continue on to learn about the Text Tool

Adding and Editing Text in Your Genially

Adding New Text

Editing Text

To add new text to your Genially, you need to go to the Text option at the top of your tool bar that is on the left hand side of your screen. Once you add new text, you can easily change the font, size, and whatever else you would like using the text editor. Press the image to enlarge it.

To edit preexisting text in the Genially, simply click the textbox you wish to edit and you can change the text. After clicking in the textbox you wish to edit, a new tool bar will appear at the top of your Genially where you can edit the color, size, type of font etc.

Adding and Editing Images

To add images or Gifs to your Genially, you need to go to the Image option on your tool bar that is on the left hand side of your screen. From here you can easily search from 100s of images and Gifs directly in Genially, or you can upload your own images from your computer, Google Drive or Dropbox.

To edit preexisting images, simply click the image you wish to edit, and a new tool bar will appear across the top of your screen. From here, you will be able to crop, flip, and even change the opacity of the image!

The Resources Tool

Do you want to add interactive graphs and tables to your Genially like the one pictured to the right? Check out the resources tool for that! You can add graphs and tables by copying and pasting data from preexisting spread sheets you may have, or input the data from scratch! In the resources tool, you can also add small icons, shapes, and even little illustrations right in Genially!

Interactive Elements

The interactive elements section of your toolbar will provide you with some common "buttons" that can be made interactive. The interactive elements section also includes new widgets so you can add timers, dice, a coin to flip and more to make your presentation even more interactive! Continue to the next slide to see the different ways you can make things interactive!

Adding Interactivity

You can make anything and everything in your Genially interactive by clicking on the item you want to make interactive and clicking the pointer symbol that will appear above that item. You can see what this symbol looks like above. Once you click that pointer symbol, a window will open where you can select what you want that item to do. Hover over each of the items to the right to see what you can do with each type of interactive element.

Interactive Questions

Add formative assessment questions throughout any presentation to check for learner understanding. Keep in mind that the questions with a star symbol next to them cannot be used unless you have a premium Genially account. See an example survey question to the right. You also need a premium account to be able to see your learners' responses after completing the lesson.

Smartblocks

The Smartblocks section of your tool bar allows you to add little sections of information from some of Genially's many templates. You can easily add small timelines, maps, diagrams and more without the hassle of creating them completely from scratch. Simply select a Smartblock you would like to use and change the information to make them your own!

Insert

Background

The insert section of your tool bar allows you to easily insert images, audio, videos, and more directly into your Genially. You can also insert external content!

Change the background of your slides in the background section of your tool bar. You can choose to make the background a solid color, upload an image, or choose from Genially's library of images and backgrounds.

Pages

The pages section if your tool bar is how you will navigate to edit the different slides of your Genially. Easily go to the different slides to edit and delete the slides you don't need. In this section, you can also add slide transitions, and hide slides that you do not want to appear when presenting the Genially.
