What is Rhythm in Art?
Rhythm in art is the visual pattern created by repeated shapes, elements, colors, sounds, and movements. It is used to create a sense of flow and connection on a work of art, as well as draw attention to certain areas of the composition.
Regular Rhythm
The most obvious regular rhythm is one in which elements are repeated exactly over and over again. The resulting regular rhythm suggests a space that could stretch on infinitely.
Flowing Rhythm
Flowing rhythms are created when organic shapes and forms are repeated, or where repetition is irregular. This results in a sense of movement or flow.
Progressive Rhythm
Progressive rhythm features elements that are changed every time they repeat, suggests a gradual increase or decrease in size, color, or texture. This type of rhythm creates a sense of progression, movement, or flow.
