Compression

Administer medications

  • An IV or IO access is established
  • this is a part of ACLS, not BLS
  • started when all team arrives
  • the most commonly used medication is adrenalin

open Airway

  • use the head tilt or chin left maneuvers
  • give 2 rescue breaths after 30 compression
  • use mouth-to-mouth, pocket mask, or ambubag
  • give 100% Fio2 during CPR

Timer

  • the timer nurse (team member) is part of the ACLS team
  • the nurse who started the compression is the one starting timing
  • the timer nurse is the one to continue monitoring and organizing the CPR cycle by time

Effective chest compression

  • push hard and push fast
  • allow for chest recoil
  • 30:2, 5-6 cm

Team leader

  • usually a medical doctor or a specialized DNP in the RRT
  • stands at the patient's foot to have a better view
  • make sure that the compression and breathing are effective
  • Orders the required medications/treatment
  • the leaders arrives with the ACLS team

use the AED

  • always use an AED once arrives
  • make sure that the rhythm is shockable
  • make sure that every body is clear
