Timeline
Detailed Description of the Lesson: TTW say “good morning to students”, and explains to students that “today we are learning about greater than, less than, and equal to symbols. By the end of the day we will be able to identify which number is higher and lower or if the two numbers are equal.” Introduce the topic by calling 3 people in red shirts up, and 2 people in blue shirts to come up to the front of the classroom. Place the students in red on the left, and the students with the blue shirts on the right. The teacher stands in the middle of the students, and explains that she is the alligator and that the students are her food. TTW ask the students “which side has more food?” The students will point to which side has more “food.” The teacher will then open her arms like an alligator, and “eat” the side with the most “food.” TTW asks the students that are standing to go back to their desks and sit down. TTW then draw the greater than, less than, and equal to symbols on the white board. TTW will then label each one. TTW remind the students that greater than means bigger or more, less than means smaller or fewer and equal means they are the same. Following this, TTW show the students a video reiterating greater than, less than, and equal to. TSW will sit at their desks, and watch it quietly. TTW then have a set of cards numbered 1-10. TTW will call students up one at a time, and place two cards on the board. TTW ask the students to choose which symbol is correct. An example would be: teacher places the number “2” and number “4” on the board. TTW ask, “Is two greater than, less than, or equal to four?” TTW put the class into pairs. TSW be given dots and greater than, less than, and equal to alligator poster cards. In pairs, the students will determine whether one of the two numbers on a worksheet are greater than, less than, or equal to the other by an alligator sign. After this, TTW pull up Kahoot on project it onto the board. TSW pull out their ipads, and do the interactive lesson from this powerpoint. This will conclude the lesson. After working on this, students will take a test.
