Simple Family

Simple Past Tense: I read a book last night ( S + Verb in past (-ed) + Complement)Simple present Tense: I read a book every day ( S + Infinitive Verb + Complement) Simple Future Tense: I will read next month ( S + will + Verb + Complement)

  • Simple past: Talk about things that happened in the past and are now over.
  • Simple present: Talk about common situations, scheduled events and to give instructions.
  • Simple Future: Talk about actions, facts and certainties that will occur in the future.
Meaning

Continuous Family

Past Continuous Tense: I was reading a book last night (S + was/were + Verb -ing + Complement)Present Continuous Tense: I am reading book right now (S + Verb To Be + Verb -ing + Complement) Future Continuous Tense: I will be reading next month (S + will be + Verb -ing + Complement)

  • Past Continuos: Talk about what was happening at a specific time in the past.
  • Present Continuous: Talk about actions that are happening at the precise moment.
  • Future Continuous: Talk about actions or situations that will be in progress at a specific time in the future.
Meaning

Continuous Family

Past Perfect Tense: I had read 10 book by the time I was a child.(S + had + Verb in past + Complement) Present Perfect Tense: I have read 10 books already. (S + have/has + Verb past participle + Complement) Future Perfect Tense: I will have read 5 books by the end of the year. (S+ will have + Verb past participle + Complement)

  • Past Perfect: Talk about a past action that is prior to another past action.
  • Present Perfect: Express actions that began in the past and continue in the present
  • Future Perfect: Talk about situations that will end in the future.

Past Perfect Continuous Tense: I had been reading for at least a year.(S + had been + Verb -ing + Complement) Present Perfect Continuous Tense : I have been reading books since I was a child. (S + have/has + been + Vern -ing + complement) Future Perfect Continuous Tense: I will have been reading for at least two hours before dinner tonight. (S + will have been + Verb -ing + complement)
