Qué es reported speech?

El "reported speech" o discurso indirecto es una estructura gramatical utilizada para informar o contar lo que otra persona ha dicho, sin citar sus palabras exactas. Cuando se utiliza el reported speech, generalmente se produce un cambio en los tiempos verbales y los pronombres. The 'reported speech' or indirect speech is a grammatical structure used to convey or recount what someone else has said without quoting their exact words. When reported speech is used, there is typically a change in verb tenses and pronouns.

Present Simple → Past Simple:

imperativo: John says, "Do your homework." Reported Speech: John tells us to do our homework.

Negativo: They said, "We don't understand." Reported Speech: They said that they didn't understand.
