Dopo queste guerre finì il dominio spagnolo in Italia, iniziò quello austriaco, e la Francia perse il suo ruolo di paese più potente. Il suo posto fu preso dall'Inghilterra

Nel 1701, con la morte di re Carlo II, la Spagna rimane senza eredi, sopratutto Francia e Austria si scontrano per ereditare il trono

Francia e Austria si scontrano per decidere chi sararebbe stato l'erede al trono di Polonia. Fu un altro scontro tra Borbone e Asburgo. Alla fine il re fu Augusto III sostenuto dagli Asbrugo

Francia e Prussia sostennero Maria Teresa sul trono contro una coalizione guidata dalla Gran Bretanga, a prevalere fu la Prussia che ottenne la Slesia
