Dates of construction:

It was constructed between 1215 and 1264 approximately. The construction was financed by the Commune of Siena, an association of citizens that governed the city. They also participated in the construction, donating money, materials and labor.

For the cathedral floor, it took more than 500 years to build.

The cathedral has a length of 89 meters, a width of 40 meters and a height of 100 meters. The dome has a height of 77 meters.

There were four main architects: Giovanni Pisano, Giovanni di Agostino, Camaino di Crescentino and Giovanni Cecco.

Giovanni Pisano

He was the main architect. Giovanni Pisano was an Italian sculptor, painter and architect. His most important works, were: Pulpit of the Cathedral of Siena, Fontana Maggiore of Perugia, and Pulpit of Sant'Andrea, among many others

Giovanni di Agostino

Giovanni di Agostino, or Giovanni D'Agostino was an Italian gothic art sculptor in Siena. His most important work was the cathedral of Siena.

Camaino di Crescentino was a sculptor and architect. His most important works were the Cathedral of Siena and The Baptistery.

Camaino di Crescentino
